AI-made movies are 2 years out, says director
What to know
Avengers director Joe Russo thinks AI could be making movies in two years… What Russo describes is a mix of gaming and passive entertainment in which AI would generate a photo-real avatar of you and make it the star of a brand new movie in whatever genre you want starring whomever you want (he uses Marilyn Monroe as an example). It’s not hard to imagine the plausibility of this, but would people actually want to watch that? It seems more like a novelty than anything that would actually replace film and television as we know it. Isn’t the joy of the movies and TV we watch the communal experience? And would Hollywood, driven by storytellers, allow these individualized AI movies to happen? I could see the tech Russo describes being applied to gaming, but as of right now, I’m not exactly worried about screenwriters, directors, and actors being put out of work. 🤖
