• Amazon will start running ads on Prime, charge extra fee for no ads… This is particularly sinister considering when all of the other streamers introduced ads, they did it as cheaper ad-supported tiers. You could keep your current subscription with no ads, or drop down to a cheaper ad tier. But here Amazon is will serve ALL of its current subscribers ads and then make them pay $3 extra to get rid of them. Boo! This of course allows Amazon to tout a big audience when courting advertisers. The other platforms had to build their ad-viewing audiences from scratch. I guess the only silver lining here is that they’re not forcing a price increase on us like the other streamers have recently. Though I’m sure that will come eventually. 📦
