Sources say Academy lied about asking Will Smith to leave… There appear to be some conflicting statements about whether the Academy actually asked Smith to leave. TMZ says Smith was “NEVER” asked to leave, while Deadline says Academy brass suggested it and Smith turned them down and said he’d like to stay and apologize. The latter scenario sounds plausible to me. Either way, the Academy went easy on Smith in the immediate aftermath.
