What to know
Shawn Levy to allegedly direct a Star Wars movie… You know, after he does Deadpool 3 and the final episodes of Stranger Things — so in 2025? I give this a 40% chance of actually happening. Lucasfilm loves to develop movies with big name directors, but hasn’t been as keen on actually making them. Just today we also learned J.D. Dillard’s Star War isn’t going forward. Fittingly, Uproxx compiled a list of all the tentative Star Wars projects in the works that is definitely subject to change. ✨
The reviews of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are in… They’re mostly in line with the early reactions if a bit more muted. Emotional, epic, and impressive are the sentiments that keep coming up. Mike Ryan went as far as calling it “a bit of a miracle.” As of this writing the movie has a respectable 88% on RottenTomatoes and is eyeing a $365M opening weekend worldwide — but it’s pacing behind Doctor Strange 2 in online sales. 🍅
Millie Bobby Brown would love to play Britney Spears in a biopic, but Britney is reminding us she’s not dead yet… I think Millie would be great as Ms. Spears, but Britney doesn’t seem to like the idea of a biopic any time soon, “I hear about people wanting to do movies about my life … dude I’m not dead !!!” Fair enough. For now, leave Britney alone. 👱🏻♀️
Jason Momoa says one of his Aquaman dreams will come true under James Gunn… I wonder what this could be, but I’m too disinterested in DC to really try and figure it out. 🌊
Zach Gilford, Scott Porter, and Mae Whitman to host Friday Night Lights podcast… And no Mae Whitman wasn’t in Friday Night Lights, she’s just a big fan. 🎙
AMC partners with Zoom to turn handful of theaters into big conference rooms… The exhibitors are throwing spaghetti at the wall. 👩💻
Disney eyeing Indiana Jones streaming series… Because of course it is. Lest an IP go untouched. 🐍
Sasheer Zamata joins Marvel’s Agatha series… Cool to see a random SNL alum book a big project like this.
Chris Evans is your new Sexiest Man Alive… And he did it all without injecting super soldier serum. 💪
Peacock adding NBC live streaming to its top tier subscription plan… That’s a start. 🦚

What to watch
At this point, I probably don’t need to recommend Everything Everywhere All At Once to you. Since premiering in March, it’s been one of the most talked about and hyped movies of the year. It’s been available on demand since July, and yes dear reader, I just got to it. That’s on me, but I can report that months after the hype machine, this movie still lives up to expectations. It might be the most creative movie put out this year. Writer-directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (known as “Daniels”) are operating on a post-modern, influence-rich, yet rollickingly original frequency that is all too rare in mainstream moviemaking. Watching Everything Everywhere is kind of like seeing Star Wars or The Matrix for the first time (the latter of which definitely had to be an influence). The Daniels’ film elicits the same response: “Wow, you can do that in a movie?” Yes, you can and they did over and over. It’s magic. Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu, and Ke Huy Quan are fantastic in communicating the movie’s complicated ideas and then grounding the lofty high concepts in piercing human emotion. If the film’s sci-fi mechanics don’t work for you, the final act’s character arcs still will. And did I mention the movie is funny? Like really funny. Not since Guardians of the Galaxy, has a raccoon been put to such good use. Everything Everywhere All At Once has already had an incredible run of word-of-mouth success, but I’m excited for even more people to discover it and have their minds blown.
