All Quiet on the Western Front, Banshees of Inisherin, Everything Everywhere All at Once lead BAFTA longlists, Cameron and Spielberg snubbed… The BAFTA Film Awards (aka the British Oscars) is narrowing down its contenders in each category if you’d like to take a peek at what’s to come in award season. As Variety reports, the BAFTAs can prelude and even sway Oscar outcomes (Anthony Hopkins over Chadwick Boseman in ‘21, for example), so it’s interesting to see the European bloc omit Avatar: Way of Water for best film and director, as well as leave out Spielberg for best director (The Fabelmans is up listed for best film and screenplay). I don’t think those snubs will happen at the Oscars. 🏆
