Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan to star in new Karate Kid movie… Taking place on the east coast, it will star a Chinese immigrant teen in American who seeks strength in martial arts. This could be interesting — as it unites the two Karate Kid eras — but we already have a very good Karate Kid update, it’s called Cobra Kai and its on Netflix starring Ralph Macchio among others. 🥋
The BBC is putting long-running Top Gear “on rest” for the foreseeable future… Pretty wild considering the show has been on since 1977. The Brits love their long-running series. Perhaps the cancellation has to do with host Freddie Flintoff getting injured in a car accident while filming last year, resulting in a $11.3M settlement against BBC Studios? 🚗
Ryan Reynolds and Amy Smart reunite for Just Friends commercial promoting Aviation gin… Reynolds has become such a mogul now, does he even still qualify as an actor? It seems every time he’s in the news it’s because he’s done some commercial for one of his businesses that’s mining the nostalgia people have for his past work. Or it’s because he’s leading a football club to victory. I’m not mad about it, it’s just funny. Anyway, this ad is cute. 🤔
Dave Filoni promoted to chief creative officer at Lucasfilm… And he’ll oversee the future of Star Wars. And here I thought he already served in that role, but glad to hear that it’s official. We know Filoni understands Star Wars, hopefully he leads its expansion beyond the Skywalker era in the right direction. ✨
People really like Ava DuVernay’s Origin… It’s reportedly the highest testing movie of her career and in Neon’s history. The buzz around it has been lesser than some of the award hopefuls this year, but after this report, it seems worth anticipating. 👀
