What to know
The major chains will show Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery for one week this Thanksgiving… In a big win for movie theaters, AMC, Cinemark, and Regal will show Netflix’s sequel to Knives Out on 600 screen from Nov. 23-29, a month before it releases on the streamer. This one-week “preview” event is a good compromise for movie theaters in desperate need of big titles and Netflix who can use a short window like this as a marketing tool. 600 screens is a small number compared to the 4,000 screens wide releases usually get — but it ain’t nothing. There’s a lot of good buzz around Glass Onion after its festival run, so it makes sense that an early but limited theatrical release would continue the word of mouth. This also good news for movie fans who will now get the chance to see Rian Johnson’s film on a big screen! This could be a good model industry-wide going forward. 🧅
