Bob Ross painting gets enormous price tag
And Guillermo del Toro almost joined a major franchise
What to know
Bob Ross’s first TV painting on sale for nearly $10 million… I shouldn’t be surprised by this, unique art and collectibles often fetch high prices, and yet… It is kind of ironic. The AP asks what Ross would think of such a price tag considering his entire mission was to bring painting to the people. Very good question. 🖼️
Inside Las Vegas’s revolutionary Sphere venue… We’ve all seen videos of Sphere’s impressive exterior screen. Now THR is reporting some facts about the inside, which also includes a record-breaking 160,000-sq-ft screen that completely envelopes the 20,000-capacity audience. The venue also has 160,000 speakers that can send different sound experiences for different parts of the audience, including different languages. As part of the venue’s opening, Darren Aronofsky has made a documentary-fiction hybrid film specially for Sphere called Postcard From Earth, and get this, the digital file of the movie is a half-petabyte — a.k.a. 500,000 gigabytes. Think of a typical 500 GB hard drive, now imagine a thousand of them. 🌐
Celine Song is already shooting her next movie… The Past Lives writer-director is reportedly in production on Materialists in New York, with backing from who other than A24. World of Reel speculates that the cast could include some big names because the production is being tight lipped about who’s in the movie. Past Lives is one of the best of the year, so Song’s next is much anticipated. 🎥
American Fiction moves from November to December platform release… World of Reel says this is to better position it in award season — but sometimes releasing too late hinders Oscar hopefuls. We’ll see. Regardless, after its TIFF win this is definitely a movie to keep an eye on. 🏆
Elijah Wood looks super creepy in first stills from The Toxic Avenger remake… It’s been a while since I’ve shared early images of a movie, but this shot of Wood is really distinct and interesting. He’s a great actor who I don’t think we get to see enough of. ☠️
Guillermo del Toro was going to direct a Star Wars movie starring Jabba the Hutt, with a script by David S. Goyer… We’ve been robbed. ✨
