What to know
Nicola Coughlan has a really interesting sex scene stipulation in her Bridgerton contract... I’ve never heard of anything like this but honestly good for her. How do actors stop their parents from seeing their sex scenes? As Nicola Coughlan just told Sirius XM, she has it written into her contract that Netflix and Shondaland must provide a PG rated cut of Bridgerton for her family to watch. Quote "It's literally written into my contract. People think I'm like saying it as a joke. I grew up Irish Catholic. That's just not how we vibe." This being Bridgerton, expect Coughlan to have a number of saucy scenes with Luke Newton. Some a bit extreme even, as she also revealed “we did break a piece of furniture while doing one of those scenes” Just don’t tell her mom and dad.
The Fall Guy debuts first ever “stunt designer” credit for Chris O’Hara… Stunt people just got a major boost in Hollywood, as SAG and the DGA are now recognizing the credit of “stunt designer.” Previously the highest credit for stunts was “stunt coordinator” but this new credit gives stunt leads even more (and deserved) stature in the industry. It might seem like an insignificant change, but this elevation speaks to the 360-degree work stunt leads do on films, not just coordinating but designing. And hopefully this leads to an Oscars category! 👏
John Mulaney to debut multi-night non-fiction event series on Netflix… It’s called John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s In LA, about Mulaney exploring the city with his funny friends, new installments will air from May 6 to May 10. Sounds like some kind of talk show travel show hybrid? But if it’s Mulaney, it’ll be worth checking out. 🎤
Aubrey Plaza cast in John Waters’s Liarmouth… This would be Waters’ first movie in 20 years — if it can find funding. Meanwhile, Plaza went out of her way to get cast in the movie, emailing Waters as soon as she heard of the project, begging for an audition. Dream do come true. 👄
Jon Snow spin-off dead at HBO… Jon Snow is really dead this time. They reportedly couldn’t find the right story to tell. While it’s a bummer we won’t see more of the character, to hear that a network is leading with story (rather than finances) is always a good sign. ⚔️
Netflix to stream late Starz series Heels… Its existing two seasons are heading to Netflix with a “distant” possibility of the platform making a third season. Distant because it’s unclear if the actors would be available. 🤼♀️
Renée Zellweger and Hugh Grant are making a fourth Bridget Jones movie… Don’t let anyone tell you the rom com is dead. 📔
Lord of the Rings stage musical heads to Chicago… 🎶 Frodo, I’ll never let you fall / Because we’ve got the one ring to rule them all! 🎶
Beau Willimon to co-write James Mangold’s Star Wars movie… Wilimon contributed to Andor, so that’s a good sign. ✨
Tom Holland’s Romeo & Juliet will transfer to Broadway… Perhaps answering the question, “wherefore art though Romeo?” 🎭
Head of the movie theater owners association wants a variety of films not just blockbusters… Amen. This guy gets it. 📽️
CBS renews FBI for 3 seasons… Broadcast TV just chugging away in the frozen stasis of 2010. 📺
Jonathan Majors sentenced to 52-week domestic violence program, no jail time
