Alec Baldwin says Rust likely won’t resume; California lawmakers consider legislation banning live guns on set… In his latest comments to the press, Alec Baldwin revealed that he doesn’t believe Rust will resume filming. After such tragedy, that makes sense. I can’t imagine a world where finishing the movie and attempting to put it out makes financial or common sense for the producers or talent involved. In related news, California legislators at various levels are drafting bills to ban real firearms on set. That’s great to hear. 🎬
Hocus Pocus 2 adds Sam Richardson, Tony Hale, and Hannah Waddingham… In another era, this movie would have been straight to VHS, have none of the original stars, and in general he pretty bad. Instead we’re getting ace casting announcements like the one above. Disney wants to win the streaming wars and to do that it appears to be making smart creative decisions with its IP plays. 🧙

Trailer: The Book of Boba Fett — Dec 29 on Disney+
Executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Robert Rodriguez, Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson, starring Temeura Morrison, Ming-Na Wen, and Jennifer Beals.
While I will of course be watching every minute of The Book of Boba Fett, I’m feeling slightly underwhelmed by this trailer. For one, it looks stylistically identical to The Mandalorian. This is a spin off of that show so they’re naturally going to look similar, but one would hope for a little bit more visual distinction. Additionally, this trailer doesn’t give us much more information than what we got in the Mando season 2 finale post-credits scene. Boba has ascended Jabba’s throne and is asserting his dominance. There are no surprises in this trailer, instead we get the most predictable follow-up beats. What does have me going here is the idea of a Star Wars criminal underworld story that exists far away from the Jedi and the Sith. The crime world has always been a part of Star Wars but usually in relation to the Jedi and the wars. It’s about time we got a proper version of that story in this universe. I’m also thrilled to see Ming-Na Wen’s Fennec Shand again and the brief glimpse of Jennifer Beals as a Twi’lek. As the 2nd live-action Disney+ Star Wars show, The Book of Boba Fett has to prove that The Mandalorian wasn’t just a Baby-Yoda driven fluke. We’ll see Dec. 29.
