What to know
‘90s toon Gargoyles becoming live-action series at Disney+… There were some recent rumors that Kenneth Branagh would be turning the show into a feature — those turned out to not be true. But now it appears fans of the cult series are getting their wish from Annabelle series writer-director Gary Dauberman. Makes sense that a horror auteur would take this property on. Though I wonder how much nostalgia there really is for the show? Is it Hocus Pocus level or more Willow? 🦇
Netflix to open physical stores with retail, dining, and themed entertainment… On the one hand, it makes sense for Netflix to take advantage of its IP and go full-on Disney World, creating theme park-esque experiences. On the other hand, the level of difficulty here to not make something cringey is high. Think of all the bad themed restaurants from the late ‘90s. 🤔
The Boy and the Heron English dub cast is totally stacked… With Christian Bale, Dave Bautista, Gemma Chan, Willem Dafoe, Karen Fukuhara, Mark Hamill, Robert Pattinson, Dan Stevens, Tony Revolori, and Florence Pugh. Dang! Studio Ghibli knows how to pick ‘em. The animated film hits Dec. 8. 🪽
Shawn Levy has no idea if Deadpool 3 will make its May 3, 2024 release date… He says they’ve only shot half the movie, so between the remainder of production plus visual effects, my guess is no. ⚔️
SNL premiere hits 3-year ratings high… Way to go, Pete! Speaking of SNL, comedian Nate Bargatze will host the Halloween show with the Foo Fighters in tow.🗽
A Florida teacher accidentally showed 4th graders 20 minutes of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey… That is a very irresponsible teacher, who probably shouldn’t be one. 🧸
Sam Rockwell and Kumail Nanjiani to star in dark comedy A Guy Walks Into a Bar… Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. 🎬
Conservative media company The Daily Wire is making its own live-action Snow White… Sounds like a huge waste of money. 🍎
Hannah Waddingham’s Christmas special hits Apple TV+ Nov. 22… You better believe it. 🎄
BTS concert film to debut on Prime Video Nov. 9… Should be a big hit for Amazon. 🇰🇷
Oppenheimer finally coming to digital and home video Nov. 21… Took them long enough! 💣
Golden Globes likely going to streaming… And not a soul was surprised. 🌐

What to watch
Trailer: The Zone of Interest — Dec 8 in theaters
Written and directed by Jonathan Glazer, starring Sandra Hüller, Christian Friedel, Johann Karthaus, Nele Ahrensmeier, Lilli Falk, and Medusa Knopf.
This is a disturbingly well done trailer because at no point does it spell it out for you. Instead it uses music, tone, and quotes from critics to unsettle the viewer. There’s an admirable level of subtlety here you don’t typically see in trailers, and it certainly has me interested. It also helps that the movie has 94% on RT and 95 on Metacritic, and that it won the Grand Prix at Cannes. It’s going to rep the UK in the Best International Film category at the Oscars, as well. Like yesterday’s trailer, this is already one of the most hyped and lauded films of the year.
