Did a Best Actress nominee break the rules?
And HBO makes an easy decision
What to know
Did the Andrea Riseborough Oscar campaign break Academy rules?… Drama is a-stirring. After Andrea Riseborough’s surprise Best Actress nomination, the Academy is reportedly looking into whether the intense campaigning that took place on her behalf violated its strict set of rules against lobbying and criticizing other potential nominees. The Oscars are serious about enforcing this stuff. In 2014, it rescinded composer Bruce Broughton’s nomination after learning he “improperly lobbied” 70 music branch members. My guess is the Academy won’t do anything about this, but Puck’s Matthew Beloni argues that doing nothing would look bad and encourage more rule breaking — so we’ll see! 🏆
