What to know
Frozen 4 is already in the works… Bob Iger just made the announcement on Good Morning America. With some recent box office failures, it’s no surprise to see Disney going back to what works and hitting it hard. Inside Out 2 is coming next June, plus we learned earlier this year that Toy Story 5 and a Zootopia sequel are in the works. Considering Iger’s quote that, “Jen Lee is working on not one but two stories,” I’m wondering if Frozen 3 and 4 are actually two parts of one story. Just speculating, but if Lee was approaching 3 as the end of the franchise, it’s not unusual for series cappers to be split into two movies. Making one big animated movie on this scale is hard enough, I can’t imagine trying to do 2 at once, if they weren’t a pair. This is encouraging to me because perhaps it signals that Disney is willing to give Lee the space she needs to finish the story. ❄️
Netflix cancels 5 shows including Shadow and Bone… The streamer went on a bit of a killing spree, cancelling Shadow and Bone, Glamorous, Agent Elvis, Farzaar, and Captain Fall. It’s a bummer anytime people lose jobs, but honestly, I’ve only even heard of 2 of those shows. Shadow and Bone’s quality really fell off in season two and it did not look like a cheap show to make. Meanwhile, Netflix did renew Rob Lowe’s Unstable, which I guess people are watching? 🍿
Queens Gambit stage musical in the works… This could be good! Oscar-nominated musician Mitski is writing the music for the show. It’s unclear if Netflix is involved directly. ♟️
Ted series drops teaser, Jan 11 release date on Peacock… Some of you might remember this 2012 comedy? Anyway, the teaser is funny. 🧸
Donald Glover-Maya Erskine Mr. and Mrs. Smith series hitting Amazon in February… I feel like Ted was still in theaters when this show was announced. 📺
Harley Quinn renewed for 5th season… It’s nice to see good shows getting long runs. 👏
