What to know
Denis Villeneuve made a dying man’s final wish come true a month and a half before Dune Part II hit theaters…. According to the CBC, back in January, a man in palliative care in Quebec expressed To his care taker Josée Gagnon that it was his dying wish to see Dune Part II. Gagnon put out the call on Facebook to see if anyone could make this happen and got the attention of Quebecois filmmaker Sébastien Pilote. Pilote happened to know Denis Villeneuve, who is from Montreal, so he put Gagnon in contact with the Dune 2 director. Villeneuve was apparently very open to the idea and offered to fly the dying film buff out to Los Angeles, but Gagnon explained, “You don't understand, he's at the end of his life, there's no way to move him. We don't even know if he's going to be here next week.” So Villeneuve decided to bring the movie to him. His assistant flew to Quebec with the filmmaker’s laptop and as Gagnon revealed, "They locked themselves in a room [...] and this man managed to watch the film on his own.” Everyone involved had to sign NDAs promising they wouldn’t say anything. Gangon couldn’t even reveal this had happened until the movie came out. Saldy, the dying man fell asleep and missed the end of the movie and then he passed away shortly thereafter, but the beauty of the moment was not lost on Villeneuve, who said, “It's for him, it's for that man that we make films, it's for the guy who said before he died, I want to see that film.” ❤️
Dune Part 2 makes $81.5 million domestic, $178M worldwide in opening weekend… That’s the biggest debut since Taylor Swift’s $93M back in October. And producers think it’s going to have legs. With a $190M budget, it should have no problem turning a profit. 🐛
Damien Chazelle says Babylon’s failure might have jeopardized his future as a director… That would be a bummer as Chazelle has made some other really great films (Whiplash, La La Land) — but Babylon was that big of a financial disaster. So director jail it is. 😮
Daniel Day Lewis is really done acting… Because “he opens up the streamers and there’s seven thousand choices, none of them are good.” Fair enough. Meanwhile, retired actor Cameron Diaz just signed onto a new movie. ⌚️
Chris Colfer Glee song hits #3 on Billboard TikTok charts… All that singing and what did it get him? A charting song 14 years later. Wild. 🥤
Joshua Jackson joins new Karate Kid movie… OK if they have to make another one of these, at least they’ve got Josh Jackson involved. 🥋
Hacks returning May 2, House of the Dragon returned in June… And there’s a teaser for Hacks. Can’t wait to have these shows back. 🎤
Dakota Johnson says she’ll never do anything like Madam Web again… I’d hope not. 🕸️
Justina Machado to star in Netflix’s first medical procedural… Netflix, it is TV. 🍿
Taylor Swift is related to Emily Dickinson… Which just makes the most sense. 🎸
Netflix cancels The Brothers Sun after one season… Shame, it wasn’t bad. ❌
Baywatch reboot lands at Fox… There’s nothing they won’t reboot. 🛟
