What to know
Studios and guilds agree vaccines can be mandated on set… As the delta variant threatens Hollywood, the industry is taking a new step towards safety: Productions can mandate everyone be vaccinated. Bold action, yes, but arguably necessary. I’m sure this will ruffle some feathers 🎬
Superhero comic creators are demanding more money… As they should. Superheroes have come to completely dominate popular culture — and their originators ought to get a piece of the pie. 🥧
Baby Shark movie in the works at Nickelodeon… make that dough doo doo doo doo doo doo 🦈
David Harbour, Anthony Mackie, Tig Notaro, Jennifer Coolidge and more team for We Have a Ghost… about a viral ghost. It joins the pantheon of “We” movies including We Bought a Zoo and We Need to Talk About Kevin 👻
CNN launching streaming service CNN+ in 2022… maybe I should have called this newsletter PCB+ 📺
Peloton is getting into video games… but I play video games to avoid exercising 👾
Marvel reportedly taps Bassam Tariq to direct Blade… I’ve never heard of him either! 🦇
District 10 will be based on American history… considering District 9 was an allegory for racial subjugation, this makes sense 🦐
You’re either going to love or hate M. Night Shyamalan’s new movie Old… hopefully it’s more Signs and less Lady in the Water 🏝

What to watch
Trailer: Jackass Forever — Oct 22
Directed by Jeff Tremaine, starring Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Dave England, Wee Man, Danger Ehren, and Preston Lacy
Did we need another Jackass movie? Probably not. Will I watch it? Definitely. I’m sure it will be very funny, but at the same time I’m not expecting it to further the form that they already played out two decades ago. (If you’re looking for the next evolution in this genre, check out Eric Andre’s Bad Trip on Netflix.) It is interesting to me that this, Borat 2, and Bad Trip all came on the heels of the Trump administration and the pandemic. It makes sense though, absurdist comedy set in the real world with real implications and real human reactions might be the only form of comedy that can stand up to a world gone mad.
