What to know
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny debuts on RottenTomatoes with franchise-worst score… Oof. This is really not good. Harrison Ford’s 5th and probably final Indy film premiered at Cannes, where it received a 6-minute standing ovation — yet, half of the critics are not here for it. With 23 reviews as of the time of this writing, it’s sitting at a 48% — and those reviews aren’t from some insignificant basement bloggers either. Critics with THR, Variety, Vanity Fair, and the BBC do not have kind words for the James Mangold-directed project. They’re calling it “joyless,” “tame and unnecessary,” “safe,” “counterfeit,” and “grasping for inspiration.” On the other hand, the other half of the critics counted had positive things to say. After the disappointment that was Crystal Skull (which interestingly has 77% on RT), it’s a bummer to hear that Dial of Destiny might not be good. 👎
