What to know
An episode of Pete Davidson’s Peacock show Bupkis will air for free on NBC and YouTube… Is Pete Davidson the star Hollywood seems to think he is? He’s a good standup and was funny on SNL as such, but did not showcase the type of all-around skills that tend to thrust cast members into the A-list. He’s no Murphy, Sandler, Ferrell, Wiig, or Hader. And yet he seems to be showing up everywhere. In addition to his Peacock show, which rehashes his Apatow movie King of Staten Island, Davidson has small-to-medium parts in 3 blockbusters this summer (Guardians 3, Fast X, and Transformers). Why? His life story and point of view are interesting, which is why an Staten Island made sense, but it seems the rest of his fame and notoriety have come from tabloid exploits. Is all that actually translating into fans who want to watch his stuff? Is Davidson a draw or does he just have the aura of being popular? And with the above story, one has to wonder if Bupkis is the hit Peacock was expecting. Ironic then that his Transformers character is named Mirage. 🤖
