Jack Black breaks up Tenacious D after Kyle Gass’s comment on the Trump assassination attempt… Tenacious D has been a comedy band for about 30 years, but all that is on the line now after the group’s show in Sydney, Australia, Sunday — which also happened to be Kyle Gass’s 64th birthday. Jack Black surprised Gass with a cake and asked him to make a wish, off the cuff Gass responded, “Don’t miss Trump next time.” This line was fully improvised by Gass and Black had no prior knowledge he’d say it. In response, Jack Black took to Instagram and said, “I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form. After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.” “All creative plans on hold” certainly sounds like the end of the band to me — at least for now. Hours later Gass himself apologized, saying, “The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake. I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone. What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgement. I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret any pain I’ve caused.” 🎸
$100M Scarlett Johansson-Channing Tatum romcom Fly Me to the Moon flops at the box office… But the studio behind it, Apple, probably doesn’t even care. Because it’s Apple and it has a market cap of $3.5 trillion. Also Apple sees its theatrical releases more as promotional events that raise the profile of its films when they hit Apple TV+ — rather than necessary moneymaking endeavors. Here’s my question for you reader, had you even heard of Fly Me to the Moon? 🌖
Trump’s VP pick has sent Hillbilly Elegy soaring up the Netflix charts… Do you remember this 2020 Oscar bait film, directed by Ron Howard, starring Glenn Close and Amy Adams? It has 25% on RottenTomatoes — but a lot of people are watching it this week. Because it’s based on JD Vance’s memoir. JD Vance, who is also a right wing U.S. Senator, was just named Trump’s running mate in the 2024 U.S. election. 🗳️
Disney is investigating a possible major hack of its internal Slack channels… Stay tuned, this could bring a lot of really eye-opening stories to light. 🐭
