WB’s monster smash is good news for the future of movie theaters — and it seems to show that theatrical-streaming hybrid releases can work. As of right now, WB is giving up the hybrid release format come 2022, but I wonder if a few more big wins like this will change its plans? Hybrid releases are the future, what’s uncertain is how long it takes to get there.

WB has no one to blame for this but themselves. The studio opened a real can of worms when it agreed to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut as it empowered fans of all stripes to try and seize their power over Hollywood. Now Godzilla vs. Kong fans want WB to #ContinueTheMonsterVerse, which it likely won’t. These campaigns aren’t hurting anyone, but we should all just manage our expectations, I think.

The Tonight Show caught some flack recently for having influencer Addison Rae on the show to show off popular TikTok dances. Critics called out Fallon and Rae for erasing the dances’ original creators, many of whom are Black. While he didn’t formally apologize, this week Fallon wisely brought on some of those creators. That’s growth, if you ask me.
I’m not sure what a ‘secret slasher’ movie is but if A24 is making it and they’ve signed up those actors, I’m in. Bakalova obviously caught my eye as she continues to springboard off Borat 2, but when I got to Myha’la Herrold’s name things got really exciting. Mostly unknown prior to last year, Herrold just gave a star-making turn on HBO’s Industry. The movie is called Bodies, Bodies, Bodies, of course.

TV Trailer: Pose season 3 — May 2 (FX)
Now is the perfect time to watch the first 18 episodes of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Steven Canals’s groundbreaking series Pose. They’re on Netflix. The series focuses on NYC’s Black and Latino LGBTQ+ and gender nonconforming drag ball culture scene of the ‘80s and early ‘90s, and the AIDS crisis that devastated said community. There is nothing like it — and that’s exactly why you need to watch it. Pose is among Ryan Murphy’s most even and grounded work, which is an accomplishment in and of itself. It broke records with its representation of transgender people on and off camera and delivered Billy Porter a much-deserved Emmy. This show will lift you up and break your heart, while serving as an important representation of a time and people that have been historically overlooked. Watch it.
