Emilia Clarke joins Marvel’s Secret Invasion series | Variety
Marvel is amassing quite the cast for its upcoming Samuel L. Jackson-led Secret Invasion series on Disney+. In addition to Jackson and now Clarke, it’s also got Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Olivia Colman. There are quite a few Oscar and Emmy nominations (and wins) among that crew. For a show about aliens pretending to be humans — I’m impressed.
Masks won’t be required on camera at the Oscars, but will be ‘important’ to the story | Uproxx
Because the Oscars are a TV/film production in Los Angeles, masks will not be required by people when they’re on camera — which is nice. Meanwhile, show producer Steven Soderbergh cryptically revealed that masks will play “a very important role in the story.” I’m guessing in the metaphorical sense, like actors wear “masks.” As you’ll recall the Oscars are allegedly a “movie” this year and will have a “narrative.”
Leaked emails show former HFPA president’s racist comments | LA Times
The former president of the HFPA Phil Berk reportedly called Black Lives Matter a “hate movement” in private emails to other members of the Golden Globes org. While some members fought back via email, it signifies more rotten business inside the HFPA. NBC condemned Berk’s comments, but in my opinion, it’s time for the network to act more firmly against the HFPA.
A new Paul Thomas Anderson movie is coming this December | /Film
Paul Thomas Anderson, aka Mr. Maya Rudolph, aka director of Boogie Nights, The Master, and There Will Be Blood, is returning to cinemas this Christmas with a movie that might be titled Soggy Bottom. The film is reportedly about “a high school student becoming an actor in the 1970s” and stars Bradley Cooper, Benny Safdie, Alana Haim (of Haim), and Cooper Hoffman (Philip Seymour Hoffman’s son). I am already all the way on board.
