More proof Pixar's still got it
And when 'Oppenheimer' will hit on demand
What to know
Elemental draws 26.4 million views in its first 5 days on Disney+… I’ve written enough about Elemental’s journey. I liked the movie a lot and thought it was being needlessly derided. It underperformed opening weekend and was considered a flop — until it showed impressive legs nearly breaking even at the box office. And now, lo and behold, it has become a massive streaming hit. Disney+’s biggest movie release of the year. If we extrapolate its views to minutes watched, it’s got 2.7 billion minutes — which will put it near the top of the streaming charts no doubt. Other than messing up the upfront marketing, Disney played every part of the film’s subsequent rollout perfectly. By letting it grow in theaters and delaying its at-home release, the company built up awareness and demand. Very smart. Also now hopefully people will stop speculating about Pixar’s decline. 🔥
