What to know
Wonder Woman 3 canceled; Man of Steel 2, Snyder heroes likely dead as Gunn & Safran reinvent DC universe… New DC honchos James Gunn and Peter Safran are reportedly clearing house, specifically the Justice League characters cast by Zack Snyder. Wonder Woman 3, dead. Man of Steel 2, which seemed possible after Henry Cavill’s Black Adam cameo, also dead. Black Adam, likely not getting a sequel, killing Dwayne Johnson’s dream of fighting Superman. Sorry Rock, your movie lost $100M! Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, sleeping with the fishes — though Momoa might play a new DC role. Shazam 2, Blue Beetle, and The Flash will get released, but the Snyderverse cameos in Flash might be cut. Noticing the trend here? (For what it’s worth, Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe appears safe.)
The big question is, if Gunn and Safran are abandoning those characters (at least temporarily), what then are they planning? THR reports it’s an interconnected universe, but it seems they might forefront lesser known characters? This worked for Marvel in the early days, out of necessity, but there’s a lot on the line for WBD to finally get DC right. Whatever it is, it’s going to be different. 🧹James Gunn responds… Gunn is speaking after THR’s big story, saying while some of the report is true, some is half-true, some is not true, and some they haven’t decided yet. He went on to say they’re hoping to, “build upon what has worked in DC so far & to help rectify what has not.” Hence, moving on from Snyder. “We know we are not going to make every single person happy,” Gunn admits, “but we can promise everything we do is done in the service of the STORY & in the service of the DC CHARACTERS we know you cherish.” Sounds like DC’s top heroes will be back then, but in what form? We’ll see! 🦸🏻
