What to know
SAG-AFTRA and the studios have come to a tentative agreement… After 188 days, the actors strike is finally ending. All that has to happen now is for the union’s members to approve the deal via majority vote. But considering how desperate everyone is to get back to work, that probably won’t be an issue. The union is calling the $1B+ deal “unprecedented” and touting its “extraordinary scope,” saying it includes…
“Minimum compensation increases, unprecedented provisions for consent and compensation that will protect members from the threat of AI, and for the first time establishes a streaming participation bonus. Our Pension & Health caps have been substantially raised, which will bring much needed value to our plans. In addition, the deal includes numerous improvements for multiple categories including outsize compensation increases for background performers, and critical contract provisions protecting diverse communities.” 🪧
Deadpool 3, Gladiator 2, Beetlejuice 2, Juror No. 2 and Venom 3 among movies that will restart production ASAP… Hollywood is going to waste no time trying to catch up and salvage next year’s summer blockbuster season. So hope you like sequels and treequels! Even though it looks like it from that list, Juror No. 2 is not in fact a sequel, it’s a Clint Eastwoo-directed drama. 🎥
Pres. Biden praises SAG deal… Even the president is getting in on the celebration. 🇺🇸
Bob Iger admits Disney erred by going for quantity over quality… Saying, “we lost some focus.” Ya think? The problem is Disney, with its numerous big studios and massive properties, is an ocean liner and making turns ain’t easy. Hopefully, a return to quality over quantity trickles down through all of the Mouse’s sub-brands. 🏰
Disney Wish receives strong first reactions from critics… Speaking of which, this must be welcome news for the studio. While the film isn’t projected to open huge, if the buzz is good it could have long legs at the box office a la Elemental, and then draw a lot of eyeballs to Disney+ after 90ish days. ✨
Christopher Nolan says he’d be willing to go back to WB… Nice to see he doesn’t hold a grudge. By the way, this is a great, long feature on the director and his Oppenheimer success. 💣
Watch the trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire… This is the sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife, a movie that exists. 👻

What to watch
Trailer: Inside Out 2 — June 14, 2024 in theaters
Directed by Kelsey Mann, written by Meg LeFauve, starring Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, and Maya Hawke.
This trailer is fine? I love the design of anxiety, but otherwise I wasn’t really surprised or all that delighted by the rest of the spot. It’s more of the same from the original, and exactly what was expected. Which is OK, really. The first Inside Out is great and so there’s no reason to be pessimistic that this one is going to somehow massively mess it up. I trust that Pixar would have only made this sequel if there was an idea good enough. So a trailer is actually moot. Interesting that the studio is doing another puberty story after Turning Red — but I’m not mad about it. Plus, it’s nice to see an all-women directing and writing team.
