What to know
SNL could return as soon as October… Once the WGA votes to approve its new deal, the writers can return and production can start once again. But isn’t the cast SAG and aren’t they still on strike? Yes, but SNL actually falls under SAG’s “Network Code,” the same one that applies to the talk shows and reality shows like Dancing With the Stars, so technically the SNL cast are allowed to return to work. The question is, is it ethical while all the other actors are still on strike? My guess is that the cast won’t cross the picket line and that the show won’t start until the SAG strike is also over — but that could be sooner than you might think. Deadline reports that the actors strike could end as early as two to three weeks from now, and it seems the studios and actors might meet in a few days. If it doesn’t, it will be interesting to see if the show forges ahead without some cast members and only non-actor hosts. 🗽
