What to know
Stranger Things s4 vol. 2 broke Netflix at 3 am… I clearly don’t have the dedication of some TV fans. Netflix’s servers went down this morning (at 3 am East coast time, 12 AM West coast) when the streamer debuted the hotly anticipated finale episodes of Stranger Things season 4. I get wanting to see it as soon as possible—the last few episodes of volume 1 were nail biters—but I’m surprised that many people are tuning in between 12 am and 3 am across time zones to watch it! 🕰
Speaking of Stranger Things ratings, the show broke Nielsen’s one-week streaming record… With 7.2 billion minutes watched between May 30 and June 5. One can only imagine how big this week is going to be. I would not be surprised to see Netflix replicate the Stranger Things volume 1 and volume 2 release strategy with other big shows in the future. It seems to have created the exact right balance of instant gratification and anticipation. 🙃
