What to know:

  • Warner Bros. Discovery won’t try to win the content “spending war”… A media exec actually making some sense? “It’s not about winning the spending war,'“ says Discovery CEO David Zaslav, “The key to these (streaming) platforms … is you spend enough that you could nourish an audience that they want to spend time with you, and that they feel that you’re the place that they want to be and you’re important.” That sounds like an argument of quality over quantity to me — and certainly has been the HBO model for decades. It also sounds like the Disney+ model. I look forward to a future in which streamers attract viewers with better content rather than more content. 📺
