Is Hollywood headed for a mega strike?… The WGA’s contract with the studios is up May 1, 2023, and Deadline reports that a strike is likely so the writers can increase minimum pay, collect better streaming residuals, and stop mini-rooms. There have been six writer strikes in history, the most recent being 2008, but what’s different this time is the actors’ union (SAG-AFTRA) and directors’ union (DGA) contracts are up June 30 and their goals are aligned. They’d also like to increase minimum pay and get better residuals. Deadline suggests there could be an alliance of sorts (or at least communication) between the 3 unions, with the WGA leading the charge. Things could get very interesting next summer. Hopefully the writers, actors, and directors get fair deals! 🪧
