The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke calls out TV creators who say they’re making “10-hour movies”… “Fuck you! No you’re not! Make a TV show,” were his exact words. While I agree with Kripke, the art of the episode is dying a slow death, even The Boys could do more to balance episodic and serialized storytelling. Sure, The Boys has mini-arcs and standalone eps (like “Herogasm”) but its scales are definitely leaning towards the serialized side of things. What shows really nail the episode/serialized balance? Station Eleven, Squid Game, Atlanta, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Discovery. 🤬
