• Doctor Strange 2 nets $36 million on Thursday night… That’s the 8th best preview night of all time — not bad, Steve. An 8th best opening weekend would put Doc Strange 2 between Black Panther ($202M) and The Avengers ($207M). The movies* are back! *Marvel movies. 💰

• The movies might be back, but there aren’t enough of them… If Spidey and Batman have showed us anything, it’s that certain movies can perform like it’s 2019 and that pesky pandemic never happened — but don’t expect an industry-wide box office bounce back just yet. Theaters are dealing with a supply problem as there are just 35 flicks heading for wide release this summer. That’s the same as last year and down from 45 in 2018 and 2019.
