The Oscars will have a host, return to the Dolby Theater… Ongoing pandemic be damned, the Oscars are going back to normal this year. Though the show isn’t happening ‘til a very late March 27th, the 94th Academy Awards will apparently look a lot like first 90 Academy Awards. The big question is can they get Tom Holland and Zendaya to host? 🏆
Marvel reportedly finds its Vampire by Night in Laura Donnelly… She’ll star opposite Gael Garcia Bernal in the Disney+ Werewolf by Night special. You might know Donnelly from HBO’s The Nevers, but she’s also got an Olivier Award. Marvel isn’t messing around with its talent. 🧛♀️
Don’t Look Up is Netflix’s second biggest original movie ever… Right behind Red Notice. It turns out if you put the biggest movie stars in your movies (and more specifically in your thumbnail buttons for your movies), people are going to watch ‘em! It’s not rocket science. For what it’s worth, I liked Don’t Look Up and am going to recommend it soon. 🍿
Pixar staffer laments Turning Red’s streaming relegation… An anonymous Pixarer (Pixaree? Pixartist?) told Variety that folks at the studio are “extremely disappointed” and that this streaming release is “quite a blow.” Red was supposed to be Pixar’s return to theaters, so you can imagine their dismay. 🐼

Trailer: The Bob’s Burgers Movie — May 27 in theaters
Directed by Loren Bouchard and Bernard Derriman, written by Bouchard, Jim Dauterive, and Nora Smith, starring H. Jon Benjamin, John Roberts, Dan Mintz, Kristen Schaal, Eugene Mirman, and Larry Murphy.
Despite its 16 Emmys and 12 years on the air (yes, 12 YEARS), Bob’s Burgers still seems like the quirky underground cartoon that could. The question here is, is this show ready for a big screen transfer? The Simpsons and South Park were established cultural juggernauts by the time they jumped to the movies. Bob’s Burgers never seemed to take off with the masses in the same way, but this lovable, offbeat series has been steadily and consistently making hilarious and relevant episodes for as long as it takes to get a high school education in America — and that’s nothing to sneeze at. This trailer’s intro is funny, while the the rest is a bit more boilerplate. That said, this seems to have been made for the fans and will more than likely deliver for them. As a fan, I’m optimistic. Fox/Disney just better hope there are enough of us motivated to go see it in theaters.
