What to know
Oppenheimer dominates the Oscars with 7 wins, Poor Things 4… Award season is over! And what a year it was. Sunday’s Oscar telecast was pretty great. It moved quickly, had a number of funny and entertaining comedy bits and performances. There were no major surprises (unless you count Emma Stone edging out Lily Gladstone in a tight race) but still a ton of powerful speeches. Random firsts and such: Robert Downey Jr. became the first former SNL cast member to win an Oscar (which is wild to me.) At 22, Billie Eilish is now the youngest two-time winner. A Godzilla movie finally won an Oscar. Wes Anderson won his first Oscar, though he wasn’t there to accept because he’s shooting in Germany. A Martin Scorsese movie just went 0 for 10 for the THIRD time. Oppenheimer is the first blockbuster to win Best Picture in 20 years. And the ratings were up slightly, to a post-pandemic best of 19.5M viewers. 🏆
New Super Mario Bros. animated movie coming April 2026… A sequel was to be expected but what’s interesting is that Nintendo and Illumination aren’t using the word “sequel” to describe this movie. Why could that be? Perhaps the next one will have a slightly different focus? So while Mario will likely still be a part of it, who knows what it will be about. Yoshi, maybe? 🍄
Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey sweeps the Razzies… I don’t understand the Razzies. Why award a movie that’s intentionally bad? Why even have the Razzies anymore? 🤔
Rolling Stone exposes alleged drama behind the scenes at Queer Eye… And a lot of blame and finger-pointing is falling on Jonathan Van Ness, who allegedly, according to Rolling Stone’s sources, can be a bit of a terror on set. 👁️
Doug Liman attended the Road House premiere after all… After all that drama and threatening a boycott, he still went. This wasn’t the end of this story I was expecting. 🤷🏻
Conan O’Brien’s travel show finally coming to Max April 18… I feel like this show was announced a million years ago. Glad it’s actually premiering. 🌍
Stranger Things play eyes Broadway… Naturally. 🙃
