What to know
Max is the #1 streamer in overall satisfaction, Netflix falls to 6… According to a new survey by Whip Media. This is very gratifying to see, because I’ve long held the opinion that the quality of Netflix programming has dropped off significantly in recent years — and it seems the public is catching on as well. In fact, Netflix has gone from a 90% rating in 2021, to 77% in 2023. Oof. Max might not be the most well-run streaming service, and has upset a lot of people with its many cancellations, but it’s got good shows (thank you, HBO!). The official rank is: Max, Hulu, Disney+, Apple TV+, Paramount+, Netflix, Prime Video, Peacock. I’m surprised to see Paramount where it is, and would personally rank it lower, but I can’t argue with the public for this ranking. The other really interesting take away from this is how far Apple has come, jumping from 62% in 2021 to 81% in 2023. It seems its strategy of quality over quantity (the old HBO model) is working. 📺
