What to know
Why you shouldn’t count out Apple buying Disney, eventually… Kim Masters has an interesting story in The Hollywood Reporter today about the future of Disney. Masters admits that at the moment Apple isn’t interested in acquiring a studio and that acquiring Disney would face regulatory scrutiny — but her sources speculate that should Disney slim down by selling off its linear TV assets, it could make for a more desirable Apple target. Masters writes that some execs foresee a future with far fewer studios/platforms. It might just be Apple, Amazon, Netflix, and one other amalgamation of what’s left (WBD, Paramount, NBCUniversal). With the way things are going, that does seem entirely plausible. Fewer streaming platforms would certainly be easier to manage, but what are the prices going to look like? And will we get as much diverse and interesting programming? 🍎
