What to know
Adam McKay is reportedly having trouble selling his next movie… Pretend you’re a studio/streaming exec for a second. If Oscar-winner Adam McKay approached you with his next big allegorical dramedy, a movie about “a serial killer who gets into politics in an effort to change the laws to be more, well, murder-friendly” and told you it would star Robert Pattinson, Amy Adams, Forest Whitaker, Danielle Deadwyler, and Robert Downey Jr., would you greenlight that film? Allegedly, McKay is having trouble landing a deal — and that might be due to the high budget he’s proposed. Matthew Belloni at Puck speculates that the film, titled Average Height, Average Build, will eventually find a home, but it’s telling just how careful Hollywood is being right now about big budget projects that aren’t bulletproof. (Deadline, for what it’s worth, says McKay’s script is being pitched without a budget.) Hopefully we get to see this McKay project as he intends, because it sounds wild. 🤨
